Motorola Radius GM300 (Maxtrac, Radius)

The GM300, Maxtrac, and Radiu series of Mobile radios is the absolute best radio that money can buy. The GM300, however, is the newest of the three, and the one that I own- even though I've operated the others as well. The GM300 and Radius are capable of 16 channels, the Maxtrac 300, is capable of 32. But because the scan speed is not as fast as a scanner, you're probably best off with a 16 channel model. All three have user programmable scan. Radios with an expanded logic board are capable of having a programmed scan list for every channel, as well as the user-selected scan. These radios are also capable of 2 priority channels. These, too are user selectable. The pre-programmed scan lists are good for when you only want to listen to one railroad company, or companies on their channels in any location without you having to go through the trouble of altering your user-programmable scan list. The 8 channel radios converted to 16 channel radios, only have user scan. Either way, you are getting a good grade radio! Prices on these radios used follow this generic list.

Radius 16 channel: $150-$300 (depending on signalling functions [these have no use on a non-tx radio])

Maxtrac 300, 32 channel radio:

GM300 8 channel radio, or radio converted from 8 to 16 channels: $200-$250

GM300 16 channel radio: $250-$300.
