| This is the first look we get of our favorite shitennou (kings, I'll explain later.) and isn't it lovely! It's also the first look we get of the very first enemy. He attacks as Sailor Moon is first becoming Sailor Moon, and he succeeds in scaring the hell out of her, if not in actually winning...dumb luck on the senshi's part, in my opinion! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Enough of that, though. To understand Jadeite, you have to understand that he was one of 4 tennou (heavenly kings; hence shitennou which means 'four heavenly kings'). These four were the protectors of Prince Endymion of the Earth Kingdom (Darien/Tuxedo Mask) during the Silver Millenium. The shitennou became discontent with the Moon's control of Earth, making them susceptible to Queen Beryl and Metallia's brainwashing.

And, big surprise here, they were brainwashed, and turned against the Moon Kingdom and their Prince. During the last battle, both they and Prince Endymion are killed, as well as all the Senshi, and Princess Serenity. What great luck our poor man has had!

Flash forward to present day Tokyo. Jadeite is now a minion of Beryl who remembers nothing of his days in the Silver Millenium. His mission is to collect energy and kill the senshi in the process. His final plan is to take kids from Cherry Hill Temple (yep, Rei's place) to lure the senshi to the Dark Kingdom and kill them there. But he kidnaps Rei to take also. Fatal Mistake. During the ensuing battle, Rei awakens as Sailor Mars, and Jadeite is killed by her Fire Soul.

But this isn't all for our favorite king. He is destined to be reborn to serve his Prince, and now that Beryl's dead (for good, presumably) Jadeite and the other three can now do this. And in fact, the shitennou do show up later, healed of all connection to Beryl permanently, to help their Prince defeat his new enemies.

Just one more note: Rei (Mars) and Jadeite were not lovers. Yes, he admired her beauty and knew her to be a very special woman, but that's as far as it went. One must also remember Rei's opinion of men, which is not very high! All this speculation was born out of one fantasy picture of the Senshi and the Shitennou, there is no support for it in the manga.
