The History of Crossroads Christian Church

Brethren, I thought it might be helpful to share with you a brief review of the history of Crossroads Christian Church, Helena, and Montana. Crossroads Christian Church is the only independent nondenominational Christian Church in the Helena area. Started in homes in 1990, then moved to various motels. Crossroads called Bob Drury to be their first minister in 1992. Under his leadership and financial help they purchased the old Catholic Church School building at 1421 N. Roberts and remodeled it. They started a day care, which they eventually dropped due to problems with the city. In 1996 Bob Drury resigned. In the fall of 1996, the congregation sold the building to the Hannaford Bible Church for their development of the Rocky Mountain Christian High School. They entered into a 30-month lease that ended in January 2000. Since then the congregation has moved three times. After the sale of the building the congregation called Chuck and Cheryl Houk to assist them in ministry. We started in February 1997. In the spring of 1998 the congregation purchased 4.5 acres on a very busy highway, Canyon Ferry Road, about 1 mile east of the York Junction, after gaining a 60 % approval of those within the residential zone where it is located. Lewis and Clark county records vehicle traffic on Canyon Ferry road at 10,000 vehicles per day. Canyon Ferry road has now been straightened and widened this year as far as our property line and will be widened and improved sometime within the next three to four years. After much labor and prayers we are in the process of building a Church complex. The first phase is a multipurpose building, 50' x 100'. The second building will be the Christian Education building followed by our Sanctuary. All the building locations are grand fathered. Both the county and the state already approve their locations. In the fall of 2000 we installed a pressure dosed sewer system to accommodate 200 persons, improved the well and excavated for phase one. In March 2001 we were issued a building permit by the State of Montana and have started. We are building it by ourselves with volunteers except for electrical and plumbing. Last October 2001, we completed the footing and foundation. We have nearly $10,000 left in our building fund. Electric power erected. Permits and all fees have been paid. The congregation is debt free at this time. The county is requiring that we install a 30' asphalt apron on Walter Drive and Canyon Ferry road. Also our parking lot needs to be completed in such a way that surface water moves to the N.E. corner of the lot. We have been donated the use of a grader to develop the parking lot and soccer/softball field on the North end of the property which we will do in the early Spring...hopefully within the next month. We are in the process of completing the loan to erect the rest of the building. This brings us up to date. Continue to pray for us and do ask, "How can I help?" Your Servant in Christ Chuck
