The Armory
There are many choices of shields and weapons.  All are effective in their own way. Many castes have different choices for weapons, be it Warrior, Guardsmen, Assassin, even the Caste of Peasants.
One must decide for what purpose the weapon will be used. A peasant, for instance, would not need a long sword, but merely a quarterstaff, or a Great bow, also known as a Peasant bow.       Another factor is the cost of the weapon, which may be high, but if well trained, the Gorean man can earn his weight in silver with a mighty blade.
The different weapons available are as follows:
Swords
Long Sword- This sword, though mostly of Torvaldsland, and other northern areas, is primarily used in a slashing motion, bashing an enemies shield. Due to its length and weight, it would take a skilled swordsman to employ this weapon.

Short Sword- The short sword, chosen by many a Warrior, is much easier to handle then its brother the long sword. Its weight and smaller length make it easier to wield in combat. The maneuverability of this weapon, combined with a shield, make them a deadly combination.

Scimitar- A blade which is rarely used, the scimitar, used in the tahari, is a long curved blade. Although razor sharp, and very deadly, the length makes it an undesirable choice.
Axes
Tomahawk- This ax has many uses. It can be used much like the others, but can also be thrown. It is a much smaller weapon then the battle and great ax, with a smaller stock and blade. This makes it much more mobile and easier to use.

Battle Ax- A single blade ax that usually has a leather strap at the end, so it isnt lost during combat. It is usually used in conjunction with a shield, which aids in the effectiveness of this weapon. It is a tough combo to defend against.

Great Ax- The great ax is double bladed, and longer then the battle-ax. This weapon, being heavier, would also be used with a shield. Due to its size, unless a great man, a warrior would be limited in his swing. However, if he hits his target it would do great damage.
Bows
Short bow- As its name suggests this bow is small. Dont feel that its smaller size, that it is less effective then its cousin the great bow. Though not as powerful, with its size, it can be concealed, and can be shot rather quickly.

Cross bow- This bow is a very effective weapon. Its power and easy use makes it a potentially dangerous item. There is one flaw to the crossbow, and that is the time it takes to reload. The crossbows power allows it to penetrate an arrow through wood, as well as a human body.

Great bow- The great bow, also known as the peasant bow, which is much more powerful then the short bow is a devastating weapon. This bow isnt used as often as the smaller cousin is. The size as well as the power it takes to draw the arrow makes it a weapon for a very skilled bowman.
The helmets of Gor all vary in size and shape. It would depend on the individual that designed them, as well as the one wearing it as to preference. Basically they were all made of some type of metal, be it bronze or steel. Most are full faced with a slot for the eyes, however some have linked chain along the face. Regardless of the style or shape, they were all used for the same purpose.... protection.

Shields are fairly similar in design to one another. They are all basically made of a wooden or steel frame, with layers of leather wrapped around the frame. Besides design, size, shape or weight, they all serve many purposes. That would range from a defensive position, or an offensive. Defensive, it will glance a blow of a sword away from the body. Offensively, it can throw an attacker off his feet, allowing the warrior to use his short sword in an attack
