Some issues we may not feel comfortable about, but will discuss if asked. Most of the time, in the church, the gay community or pornography is discussed in a "condemning" way where the rest of the world is the person on trial, and we are in the judges chair (a dangerous place to be for the church)...Then there are the issues that we shy completely from, and cast off as forgotten. The issue for this page is discrimination, namely, rasicm. These especially need to be talked about.

Issue Part 1: Discrimination
The driving force is hate in most cases of discrimination. The sad thing that seeps in the church is that we don't recognize our own bias and discrimination. All cultures are different, within those cultures the people are different. I cannot deny that living in a population where the caucasion group was the minority didn't change my culture. I love mexican food, love the
dedication that most hispanic's have to their faith! This love, for a culture far from my own, would not have come if I had been raised in another region of the United States. I love the appreciation I have for these things. Some of the white people who were raised the same way, in the same city, on the same block, do not share this love with me. I was faced with the problem of discrimination when I realized that I was the minority, by statistics, and not by definition. I watched hatred build up when my hispanic friends were given scholarships for being hispanic, and "we" were left "scrounging for quarters." I watched it like it was a scene from the civil rights movement. My best friend for 13 years and I were wondering why? in the middle of our lives we were faced with a choice to have "brown pride" as it was called, or stay friends and accept the problems that would come with it. We chose to stay friends! Hatred, Discrimination, whatever you want to coin the term is very real, and very serious. It is in each one of us, built into our minds, the ideas that all "this" type of people like "this" is not true! We must do something about it. 1. face yourself! See what parts of you should change. 2. teach others! Tell people when they are being discriminatory, they may not even know it! 3. Pray, see what God wants in you to change, and 4. Change it!
