Journey

by Buckaroo42

There once was a time you didn’t belong.

As a child of six you knew they were wrong.

The words that were yelled seemed unfounded.

The laughter and scorn abounded.

To battle you went, taking only your pride.

and your heart was hardened by comrades that died.

The scars that you gained, the nightmares that followed.

They made you a man, but a hard pill to swallow.

Though bitter and angry, you searched for a name

The family you found, wasn’t sure of your game.

With time they accepted the man you’d become.

It no longer mattered where you’d come from.

They took you in and gave you a home.

They took your excuses for needing to roam.

Untrusting and weary, you stood apart.

In no time at all they had your heart.

Life and its heartaches can be such a journey

But the end results aren’t often so worthy.

You look to the sky and send thanks up above.

You’ve finally found a place for your love.
