CZ-USA VZ58 Sporter

Produced in the Czech Republic
by CZ, this is a semi-automatic version of the Czechoslovakian
assault rifle by the same name. Designed
in 1958, it remained in frontline service with their military until 1993, but
still continues to see secondary service with the Czech Republic and Slovakian
armies. It chambers the Warsaw Pact’s
mandatory 7.62 x 39 mm Soviet round but is of superior quality, fit, and finish
to the USSR’s
AK47, the rifle it is most akin to. The
VZ58 has a short-stroke gas piston and milled receiver, is 30-round magazine
fed, and is striker (not hammer) fired.
The safety selector switch is also located at the right side of the
receiver, similar to the AK47. This
particular variant has a 16-inch barrel, and a fixed buttstock
made from wood-impregnated plastic as is the grip and handguard. The rear sight is adjustable for ranges
between 100 and 1000 meters but has not yet been properly zeroed.
