A very high quality American-produced version of the venerable
Soviet AK-47, or more correctly AKM (“M” meaning modernized). This is an extremely successful design of
late 1940s vintage that still soldiers on in third world banana republics and
tin pot dictatorships. The design is
very cheap to produce, extremely reliable in the field (particularly in the
hands of untrained conscripts), but not particularly accurate. This copy, built on an Armory receiver, is
true to the original style minus the Galil-style
folding stock, and is chambered in 7.62 x 39 mm Soviet. It also has a non-adjustable long stroke
piston gas system, slant muzzle break, and uses standard 20 and 30-round East
German steel magazines. The rear sight
is adjustable for ranges between 100 and 1000 meters, however, like all AK-47s,
the rifle’s range for acceptable accuracy extends only several hundred meters.
