February,
2004 Dear Friends, I have a timely trivia question for you! What's the second largest single-day sporting event after the Super Bowl? In terms of on-site media coverage, the Boston Marathon ranks behind only the Super Bowl as the largest single-day sporting event in the world. But unlike the Super Bowl, you can attend for free, and you personally know one of the participants! Yes, this year I am again a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC), a team of over 300 runners with the goal of collectively raising over $3 million to benefit ongoing cancer research at the Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. On Monday, April 19th, our DFMC team efforts culminate with participation in the 108th Boston Marathon, which I will be running in memory of my friend Mike Ford. This will be my second year working with this cancer charity; last year, thanks to the contributions of generous people like you, we raised over $12,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute! (See http://us.q-matic.com/DanaFarber.html ) But until a cure is found, cancer research can never stop. I am writing this letter to ask for your support, to help the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to find a cure. DFMC has a new convenient donation system; just use the "Click Here" link at the bottom of this letter or visit www.MichaelJFord.org and click on "Dana‑Farber Marathon Challenge." You can donate online with a credit card or offline with a printable donation form that you can mail with a check. Personal contributions last year varied from $10 to $500; so donate absolutely any amount you'd like to, any time before March 31st. Every single dollar helps and no amount is "too small." Our donations fund an excellent cancer research project. The DFMC raises funds for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The DFMC directs 100% of funds raised to the Barr Program. For more information visit http://dana‑farber.org/how/danafarber/claudia.asp Thank you for your support,
