A Tree (August 6, 1998)
Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Looking at a tree
What do you see?
Do you see it as it is
Or do you create a vision
Of something else?

Look at it once again
What stands gracefully
In front of you is a tree
Not a fanciful, improbable creature
Of your roaming imagination

Every inch of the bark
Its coarseness and its wrinkles
Every piece of leaf
Its freshness and its curves
Doth proclaim the simple reality
Of this green and brown mixture
It is a tree, my friend
It is useless to argue with the nature
It may not look like a tree to you
But it is, believe me, it is

The following two poetic ramblings may sound a little forced (hint, 'cause they are a little forced =). . .but enjoy anyways!

Untitled (August 6, 1998)
Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Am I a fool
To lose my heart to you?
Am I a drunk
To love you like I do?
Am I blind
To never see through
A tale of lies
A smile deprived of truth
Or am I just a school girl
Who has yet to see the world?

I do not wish to fight
I do not wish to brood
I only want to love you
It is that simple
But you have made it
Quite impossible
Now I am left alone
Without a key to the lock
For you have already walked far
Too far away for me to reach out
And stop you
And turn you around
And say
Will you never return?

Shadow in the Wind (August 5, 1998)
music and lyrics Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Ever seen
A shadow in the wind
Ever felt
The silence he brings
When the night comes
When the noise drowns
There stands a shadow in the wind
Collecting the stars on a string
A shadow in the wind

Shadow in the wind
Walking by himself deep into the night
Shadow in the wind
Stumbling on without a guiding light
Shadow in the wind
Seeking his star and seeking his moon
Shadow in the wind
Needing a friend and needing a home

Ever seen
A shadow in the wind
Ever found
The pebbles he flings
When the world dawns
When darkness frowns
There stands a shadow in the wind
Fading away like a forgotten dream
A shadow in the wind

Shadow in the wind
Walking by himself deep into the night
Shadow in the wind
Stumbling on without a guiding light
Shadow in the wind
Seeking his star and seeking his moon
Shadow in the wind
Needing a friend and needing a home

A shadow in the wind
Hesitates on the threshold of the morning
A shadow in the wind
Glances back at the winding way he's been walking
A shadow in the wind
Wipes away the tears he has been crying
A shadow in the wind
Keeps walking

Shadow in the wind
Walking by himself deep into the night
Shadow in the wind
Stumbling on without a guiding light
Shadow in the wind
Seeking his star and seeking his moon
Shadow in the wind
Needing a friend and needing a home

The following song is sorta for someone (you might know who you are); however, as I had to stress at other similar occasions, some elements in it are there for the pure sake of poetry. Jess: as to my "official declaration," it still holds. =)

Is It Meant To Be (August 3, 1998)
music and lyrics Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Is it meant to be?
Did you have to leave?
Can't you even see
How much you mean to me?
Is it meant to be?
What have I left to believe?
Tell me
Is it meant to be?

High up in the sky
Where the wishes lie
You always turn away
And never tell me why
When will you see
That all I've given was love
Tell me
Is it meant to be?

Why did you leave me standing in the rain?
Why did you leave me crying once again?
Did it have to be?
Did we have to part this way?
Tell me is it meant to be?

How Long (July 29, 1998)
Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

How long do I have to wait
To be face to face with you?
How long do I have to wait
To be able to see the truth?
How long do I have to wait
To be free of hatred and lies
Instead of just playing games
Shaking hands with a disguise?
Tell me
How long?

Another "put-ya-to-sleep" song that really came outta nowhere. . .

The End of Always Forever (July 28, 1998)
music and words Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Never thought the end would come
When forever has only just begun
We laughed and danced days and nights
We hugged and cried after our fights
Hand in hand
We walked through an eternity
Together
We walked through with dignity
But before we knew
The end of always forever
Was just a day away

Our hopes have shone in the dark
Our wishes have touched the stars
Our tears have mingled in the rain
Our dreams have driven away the pain
Hand in hand
We dreamed to defy gravity
Together
We dreamed on with naivety
But suddenly we saw
The end of always forever
Was just lying ahead

We have come to
The end of always forever
We have been through
Happy days that are now over
We have gone astray and
We have found our way
We have written a fairy tale
Now on a rainbow it must lay
Time to say bye
Let our tears dry
We've come to
The end of always forever

Here's a wacko creation for Louis the Moving Person.

Moving (July 26, 1998)
Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Moving is fun
Moving is cool
Moving with the sun
Is better than school

The desk is to be moved
The chair is already gone
The bed cannot yet leave
Still there to sleep on

When it starts to rain
Time for cakes and juice
Drink some more champagne
With frosty ice cubes

It is time to stop the work
It is time to have some fun
Party with Taiwanese singers-mockers
And stuff yourself with buns

Everyone moves happily
When the spirit is hearty
So surrender yourself to slacking
And HAVE AN AWESOME PARTY!

What Does A Mirror Do (July 24, 1998)
Copyright (c) 1998 Yifan Zhu. All Rights Reserved.

Do you know what a mirror does?
A magical glass that makes
Everyday the happiest day
And the sun smile constantly?

Do you know how a mirror works?
The sky in the shade of color
You always dreamed to see
And life the way it SHOULD be?

Do you know who you want to be?
Do you know where your life will lead?
Do you know that inside a mirror
Is where your hopes should never reach?

Can you see yourself as clear as others?
Do you know who you really are?
Because only those that do can recognize
Themselves on the other side of a mirror

Do you see
By now
That you have been looking into a mirror
All along?
