| FACE TO FACE They finally met that chilled Autumn day, It was so hard to find the right words to say. They side-stepped each other, sneaked a glance, Each wanting so much to hug the other, just waiting for the chance. They knew each other so well, had shared so much, Yet they didnt know what it was to see and to touch. Companions through the dark times, allies through the wars of words, Holding hands across the seas, laughing at the absurd. Until that day an ocean came between them, It seemed the Universe had conspired to separate them. But that day they took the last puzzle pieces and fitted them into place, They sat across a table, finally face to face. Drinking endless coffee and building coin towers, Knowing that their friendship was the strongest of powers. Teasing the waiter boy, laughing out loud, Just two alone; Faces in a crowd. No reason to hide their smiles, their imperfections gone for a night, Calm and relaxed in their world, it felt so right. Together at last, to see, to feel, To realise at last that the other was real. Their sons, heads bowed, strolled along a pier kissed with the Autumn breeze, The little guy holding tight to the bigger ones jeans. It had taken them so long, they travelled so far to achieve, Yet that day they were there and they could believe. Splash |
