JAILBREAK

We have our own prisons
Breaking rocks,
   we mourn and mope.
Strung out in the chain gang
Chains of steel
crush our spine, crush our hope.

What are the bars that bind you?
Are the prison walls your own home?
What is it that frightens you,
being in a crowd, and yet alone?

We have our own prisons
     in our hearts
     in our heads
Yes, you can be freed
but not if you’re dead

Freedom is for the brave
Jailbreak!  In your head
Chains dissolve for those who see
But alive, can’t do it dead.

Inspiration
There are so many people who are languishing in prison, and then there are so many people who languish in the prisons created in their own minds.  Either way, we have to face our biggest fears and we cannot win if we give up.
