IF I COULD HAVE DEATH

if i could have DEATH and SORROW,
i’d pity the tears,
and lonely ones
who’d died
then  i’d tear DEATH and SORROW
into little pieces
without even peeking inside

i’d let the breeze
blow away the sickly disease
i’d stomp it into the ground
i’d chill it and kill it
never, never to be found

i’d spread forever-lasting hope
to all whose faith had died
i’d spread forever-lasting happy smiles
to all those who’ve cried

IF I COULD HAVE DEATH
Written February 12, 1977
Inspiration
This poem personifies death, wishing that death and sorrow could be physically held and torn "into little pieces" like a sheet of paper.  Sometimes, we just get disgusted with the sadness and negativity in the world, and we want to do something about it.
