Inspiration
This was written for a good friend who was afraid to love. I wanted
him to break down his exterior protection that he built around himself: "crush
the walls / that only you can see." I felt that I could see what a good,
caring person he was but he couldn't see it in himself, "search your heart
/ that only I can see." I believed that by letting me see his true
self, he could learn to trust in the love of a friend and thus find himself.
He thanked me deeply for this poem and did, indeed, share his innermost
thoughts and feelings with me.
