FILL IT UP
So hard to let go
of something I never did hold
Didn’t come TO me,
only THROUGH me.
Gift of love
stolen – from under the Christmas tree
Birthday candles
never to be lit
No fingers in the frosting
and I can’t fill it
Fill it up fill it up
Can’t fill it up, the empty hole
the dark canyons in my soul
missing the sweet sounds
laughter and jokes
skinned knees and baby bottle cries
tickled howls and content quiet sighs

Inspiration
Children come through us, not to us. They are given to us a short while,
then they must move on and do the same. This is a generally accepted
way of life. In "Fill It Up," however, we see a different experience
of having children stolen. A child that is gone puts such a vast emptiness
inside a parent's heart, that we "Can't fill it up, the empty hole / the
dark canyons in my soul."
