CAUSTIC ANGEL WINGS

In the span of of 2 years,
my world has ceased to exist.
What was real, faded into fear
and sunbeams became devil-kissed.
    Tumble and crumble and fall
    Angel wings are seared
    Hell fires and demon liars
Screaming souls are all I hear

What has been – well, it was.
Shall I sob in denial?
What could have been and should have been
all of it failed the test of trial.
    Tumble and crumble and crash
    Angel wings are scorched
    Hell fires for evil liars
    Faith and love are torched

The future holds nothing known,
that is the One True Belief.
Hope is a melted ice sculpture,
Trust snatched at gunpoint by The Thief.
    Tumble and crumble and die
    Angel wings have fallen
    Steal and cheat and lie
When does the good guy win?

CAUSTIC ANGEL WINGS
Written December 12, 2003
Inspiration
The poem starts by explaining that over the past 2 years, the writer has undergone a severe change.  The change was not good, as "sun beams became devil kissed" (normally joyous things become unwelcome).

We all encounter destroyers in our lives...it could be a family member or a terminal illness. When a justifiable cause cannot be attributed to our fate, we sometimes lose hope: "Hope is a melted ice sculpture". We want revenge for the people who brought destruction: "Hell fires for evil liars." This poem is also about yin & yang, good versus evil, and begs you to ponder what happens when "the good guy" has angel wings that are scorched, seared, or fallen.
