AM I ENOUGH I remember our first kiss, Hoping beyond hope you would not reject this So imagine my surprise When I looked into your eyes And saw what the angels must miss You ask me how soon I knew Although we met not very long ago, that’s true For me, it was love right at once Even if it took you months To learn you were meant for me and I for you You make me be the man I need to be Bringing hope and light and honesty I’m going to be more than I am Am I tall enough to stand in the shadow of your beauty Darling, why now do you sit and cry You must now come to me and dry your eyes Or maybe take my shoulder to lean upon My shoulders are big and strong And I can see where our happy future lies So now you see I want to be a better man for you You deserve more than I can give your whole life through I am hoping I am enough Shall I be tender or tough What did I do to deserve your love? --CRONIN DETZZ Back to main page |

| Inspiration This is the first poem that I wrote from the male point of view. Men struggle with different relationship issues, and this poem addresses some of them. The beginning of the poem shows that when they meet the right woman, they know right away (whereas women often question relatonships). Sometimes, the love of a woman can make a man question his values, in other words, "Am I Enough." They also sometimes don't understand why women cry: "Darling, why now do you sit and cry." If they see a woman crying, they want to hold her and save her from her own feelings: "...take my shoulder to lean upon / My shoulders are big and strong." |
