Bjelovar is situated north-east of Zagreb, towards the Hungarian border and the old Hungarian name of the town is Belovarcz. Bjelovar is a typical central-European town with  27,783 inhabitants. The town is situated between two lakes just south of the Bilogora Mountain. Bjelovar was mentioned for the first time in a letter, written by the Slavonian Viceroys Mirko of Zapolje and Nikola of Ilok, 1465.
