CROCODILIAN FACTS

Crocodilians have lived for millions of years and they were here far before us they were around when the dinosaurs were around, they are the ultimate survivor.

When ever a Crocodilian losses a tooth it is always replaced.

The largest Crocodilian reported wasin the 1920's  estimated at 33 foot (10 metres). It was an Australian Saltwater Crocodile but was to big to capture.

The Nile Crocodile is large enough to take down an Wilderbeast.

The reason why there are so many attacks by large Crocodiles
is because it is probably their own territory and they want people out.
Always the larger Crocs dominate the small ones. Especially in the breeding season the Males tend to be more aggresive towards other Crocs.

Despite the Gharials large size some specimens reaching 23 foot they are not aggresive towards Man. They are a very unsual Crocodilian with a very long, thin snout and males having a larger nose that sticks out.

When Crocodilians open their mouths most people think it is a sign to go away but some of the time it is that they are just gaping so they can warm up and go and hunt.

Despite Crocodilians fierce looks all Crocoilian Mothers protect their baby's till they are around a year old so they stand a better chance of survival, depending on the species they are normally about 30cm when they are born.

What gave the Australian Saltwater Crocodile it's name was it's abitily to swim in the sea as most Crocodilians cannot tolerate the salt.

The smallest Crocodilian is the Cuvier's dwarf Caiman, big Males reaching up to 1.5 meters, despite their small size they are heavily armoured. Schneider's dwarf Caiman (Cuvier's dwarf Caiman's closest relative) is slightly bigger big males reaching 1.7.

Crocodilians have a tongue which blocks the enterance of the throat so they can swollow  prey underwater without drowning or getting any water in its lungs.

Crocodilians have a third eye-lid acting as google's so they can see clearly underwater.

Crocodiles watch their prey from underneath the water and then suprise them, they can throw themselves out of the water very fast.
