One Dozen Eyes

They stare unblinking,
Those one dozen eyes,
They stop my thinking,
Those one dozen cries,
They chill my blood,
Those one dozen eyes,
They kill and chill,
And then you die.
I sit and stare,
And watch the lair,
In which the eyes reside.
I am locked in tight,
By all their might,
And with the eyes I collide.
They stare unblinking,
Those one dozen eyes,
They stop my thinking,
Those one dozen cries,
They chill my blood,
Those one dozen eyes,
They kill and chill,
And then you die.
The eyes are hard,
The dark they guard,
The secrets long untold.
They seek to stay,
And watch their prey,
And devour those too bold.
They stare unblinking,
Those one dozen eyes,
They stop my thinking,
Those one dozen cries,
They chill my blood,
Those one dozen eyes,
They kill and chill,
And then you die.
They watch and wait,
And hesitate,
And sever all their ties.
They live in the deep,
They never sleep,
Those uncanny one dozen eyes.
