BACKGROUND
Instead of just plopping characters down in the middle of Termina and saying "Start Role-Playing!", there's an in-depth story behind everything that is going on in Termina. This helps to give everybody an idea of the past and also makes the RPG ten times more interesting. Exactly what has been going on? Read below to find out.
STORY
Long ago, the land of Termina was a prosporous place. Villages thrived, populations grew, and the citizens of this magical world  lived in peace and happiness. The people gave thanks to the four Guardian Giants who protected Termina from their four locations in each compass direction. The world was at peace.

Then along came a Mask Salesman, an odd traveler from a strange realm. He had been visitng another dimension not too dissimilar to Termina... but during his stay, a troublesome Skull Kid stole his most prived mask... a mask that could change the outcome of an entire universe. Without knowledge of the immense power he held, the Skull Kid dashed off into the land of Termina. He had visited before, but this time he wanted to make his mark. He called Termina's moon to crash into the earth, destroying the land.

Fortunately, Link, the Hero of Time, got himself caught up in the quest, and with the help of the four Guardian Giants, helped save Termina. The moon was set back into orbit around Termina and the land was saved. Link returned to his home world, the Skull Kid was back  to normal, and the Mask Salesman went on his way. The people of Termina, however, were largely unaware of the events that has just happened. All they knew was that the moon came very close to crashing into Termina, then the four Giants stopped it from happening. This was reason for a huge celebration.

At the celebration, the different races began to take credit for the work that had been done to save Termina. The other races became angry, and tensions arose between them all. Over the course of several years, the races grew more and more distant. Some races stayed closer to others, but all races still harbored harsh feelings towards one another. With thoughts of superiority, many races stopped attending the annual Carnival of Time, and those that did often refrained from talking or staying with those of other races.

Things were looking worse and worse for the relationships between the races of Termina. War was imminent. Each race had a vision: to rule over all of Termina, with the other races under their control. After a short while, Terminian forces sieged Goron territory, then formed and alliance with the Ikanans to sack the Zora's homeland. Soon, all the races fell to the power of the Terminians. The Terminians ruled over the land with an iron fist and harsh laws. Things looked bad for the other races.

At this point, Link returned to Termina. Seeing the state it was in, he was not pleased. He wished he could have done something to prevent it. So, with a solemn tune played on his Ocarina, the clock raced back to only months before the war broke out. Link then realized that it was not up to him to change the outcome, but for the people. The seeds of war had been planted long ago. There was little he could do, and so he returned to Hyrule.

However, the clock has been reset in Termina. A clean slate has been made. The other races have been given a chance to prove themselves once more. To prove to Termina that
they are the ones fit to rule.
LEGENDS
Legends are tales from the people that depict certain strange, unusual events. Legends are oftentimes told among the various people of different races, but few know if they tell the truth or if they are simply fiction. Some legends are race-specific; other races don't tend to believe in them as much. Feel free to implement these ideas into your stories. Keep in mind that you can't control other people, though.
1. TATL AND TAEL: THE WANDERING FAIRIES
  Races: All
When Link returned to Hyrule, the Skull Kid soon decided to leave Termina to follow him. Being the reckless and unpredictable creature that he is, he left without thinking about his two fairy friends, Tatl and Tael. The fairies only caught a glimpse of the skull Kid leaving, and after searching for him, realized that he had left to go to the Lost Woods. It is said that to this day, these two fairies wander around Termina in search of an entrance to the other dimension that will reuinite them with their lost friend. It is said that seeing Tatl is good luck, while seeing Tael is bad luck. Seeing both at the same time (a claim none have taken) is said to bring death.

2. THE DEKU FATHER
  Races: Deku
Five years before the start of the RPG, a young Deku girl disappeared into the Swamp Forest. Her father, desperate to find her, trudged into the depths of the Swamp to find her. He was soon missing himself. A search party formed to try to find the two, but only the father's mangled corpse was discovered, smashed by rocks beneath a heavenly waterfall. Some Deku claim that his devotion to his daughter  could not be restricted even by death, and his ghost still travels around the Southern Swamp, in search of his missing daughter.

3. HOPE
  Races: All
Hope is a mysterious entity that is said to aide souls that are in troubled situations. Hope can change time, events, and the thoughts of people. It is an incredibly powerful being, but no one knows if it exists for sure. A great Goron armorer once made holy armor said to be blessed by Hope, and supposedly retains supernatural powers. It's location today is uncertain.

4. DEMON WHITE WOLFOS PACK
   Races: Goron
The Gorons live in fear that one day this horde of creatures will return to Snowhead. Records declare that on several occasions, the Goron Village was attacked by a pack of White Wolfos. But the White Wolfos were more agressive, as if possessed by an evil spirit. Hundreds of Gorons were killed as the crafty Wolfos even managed to get into homes. These creatures are very powerful, but have not been seen for as long as any living Goron can remember.
