There are three major women in this story: Nausicaa, Circe, and Calypso.
All of these beautiful women fall in love with Odysseus and want him to stay with
them. Nausicaa and Calypso even wanted to marry him! Odysseus' ability to say
"no" to these three women shows his devotion to his wife, Penelope. These three
women must have been great temptations to Odysseus, but he ended up using their
love to his advantage, since each of them ended up helping him along in his
journey. Nausicaa introduced him as a possible suitor to her father, who gave
Odysseus a trip home, Circe gave Odysseus instructions concerning his trip, and
Calypso instructed him in the construction of a raft that set him on his way home. |
