Notes:
Out of the old cassette case comes one of my most prized possessions. This has never been heard by anyone. I was fortunate in that I got to see Cannonball live a total of 15 times. This is a recording I made the last time and only months before his untimely passing. This is not a recording for everyone. If you’re only into FM and SB or high quality audience recordings this is probably not for you. This is on the lines of my RFT/'73 &’74 uploads. The left channel is hardly there (guess the old deck was on it’s way out) so let’s label this one "FOR COLLECTORS ONLY". What comes out of the right channel is killin'!!

Now that that’s been said let me say this, the music is awesome. Cannonball never sounded better and his duet on "Stella" with Mike Wolff is something that is beautiful and should be heard by all. Cannon calls the history of the alto into play on a beautiful performance of this standard tune.

A word about Mike Wolff. He was only with Cannon for about 6 months prior to Cannon’s passing and he was a perfect fit for the band. He has the whole ‘70s keyboard rig going on "The Black Messiah" and "Phases". The Fender electric piano along with the phase shifter, echoplex and ring modulator. His acoustic playing is also quite excellent. After Cannon passed he went on to become Nancy Wilson’s music director before landing the leader gig on the Arsenio Hall show. His current recordings are very good. Sans a bad bootleg LP these are the only recordings of Wolff with Cannon that I know of.

The one set from 4/21/75 was taped by someone I use to be friendly with back in those years. It is considerably better than my 4/22/75 recording. I also taped both sets on 4/21 but my copy is not too good.
