What's Crew? A bit about our sport
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure" Colin Powell
Requirements Students need to have a physical from a doctor, be in good academic standing and be able to pass a swim test to join the Crew. You do not need to know how to row or have participated in other sports. Sports Physical Students need a physical, administered by a doctor, that clearly states "CLEARED FOR SPORTS". Physicals are good for 1 year from the date of the exam.. You should try to get one during the summer so it doesn't expire during the school year. The CRLS form is available online. Swim Test Students need to be able to be able to tread water for 10 minutes and swim 100 meters. Given by the Crew every season, each rower must pass it once a year. Eligibility Paperwork Necessary forms are passed out at the pre-season meeting and are DUE BY THE PARENT MEETING AT THE START OF EACH SEASON. The foms specifically required by the CRLS Athletic Department are also available online. Athletics Rules & Regulations The Rules, Regulations and Policies of the CRLS Athletic Department are available online. A copy is included with the preseason packet. It is important that both the student and their parents read and understand them.
Clothing Rowers and Coxswains should come to paractice wearing running shoes and appropriately dressed to exercise outside. Practice clothing should be form fitting so it doesn't hang below the seat and get caught in the wheels that the seat rolls on. Basketball style shorts are too baggy. We sell rowing specific shorts for about $20. To compete, each student must purchase and wear the CRLS Crew uniform. The uniform consists of a pair of solid black, form fitting shorts and either the CRLS Crew t-shirt - for the novice rowers, or the CRLS Crew top for the varsity. Additional clothing items such as the long sleeve warm-up, jacket, hat, sweats, etc are recommended but not required. Clothing may also be purchased from the Friends of Cambridge Athletics who sell generic Cambridge Athletics apparel. You can order these items here - FOCA Clothing.
Fundraising In the Fall: All students are required to raise a minimum of $50 for the FOCA Walk-a-Thon. In the Spring: Students new to the program are asked to raise $75 for the FOCA City Run. Returning students must raise $150. Exemptions should be directed to the ASCC board.

Parent / Family Requirements Rowing is an expensive and logistically difficult sprot to manage. Because of this, each student-athlete and their family agrees to assume responsibilities as requirements for the student-athletes participation. Each family agrees to provide food or beverages for events when requested, to collaborate with the carpooling when necessary, and to contribute $10 when other families are doing the driving.
DISCIPLINE As representatives of your family, this team, and the school, CRLS Crew members are expected to use common sense and good will in their decisions and actions. They must learn the rules of this program and have the best intentions in not putting themselves in a position to be disciplined.
