Claims

"Davis School District officials say the teen suicide rate in the county is more than three times greater than the national average."

Is Davis County's teen suicide rate triple the natonal average?

Because the number of Davis County teens who commit suicide in a single year is so small, the rate fluctuates wildly from year to year, and comparing rates for two individual years is not useful.

Davis County's teen suicide rate is compared to the national average in the graph below. Davis's rate was three times the national average or higher in only four of the 23 years shown. In five of those years, Davis's rate was lower than the national average.

Figure 1 shows the teen suicide rates for Davis County and the United States. Rates are the number of suicides per 100,000 residents age 10-19. The table below the chart shows the actual number of teen suicides in Davis County each year.
