Including, selection installation and maintenance of Sendmail and QMail based mail servers, including support for mail accounts using POP3 and IMAP. Server system included distinct out bound, in bound, proxy, archive, and mailbox servers. The decision to have such a intricate system for handling mail was decided upon by management, as part of a one server for one function philosophy. All systems had a twin, backup server. Except for the Macintosh servers, I was responsible for acquiring the servers, all configuration, procedures, setting up monitoring, backups, and maintenance. Inbound servers were running Sendmail, with custom rule sets for blocking their use as spam relays, instructions for which mailbox servers handled specific domains, and a rule set for sending mail for archive directly to archive server. Out bound mail servers were QMail based for speed and security. Proxy mail servers were AIMS and Communigate Pro based. My responsibilities were primarily to maintain these pre-existing mail configurations, upgrading around them, and then move mail accounts to proxiless Linux based mail servers as possible. The archive server had a custom Sendmail configuration, using Procmail to deliver messages to date and or topic specific MX format mailboxes to avoid conflicts and excessive file sizes. The mailbox user account servers ran Sendmail, using tmail as a delivery agent to MBX format mailboxes, for access by IMAP4 and POP3. Originally, the Macintosh proxies were used for POP3 accounts. Later we moved to Linux and Qualcomm's qpopper POP3 server. The MBX mailbox format using tmail as a delivery agent was decided upon for it's speed, IMAP functionality, and it's almost unique ability to have multiple users accessing and changing messages at once. Mail systems were monitored using periodic mail messages triggered and monitored automatically. HTTP Webservers Role: Administrator What did I do: Configured and maintained Apache and IIS webservers. As needed, configured new webservers, including ordering, installing, and updating SSL certificates. As needed, coordinated revisions to corporate websites with marketting and operations. Including, specificily requested modifications to Java applets and HTML. Technologies: HTTP, HTML, Apache, Stronghold, IIS, Frontpage, SSL, Java. Automated backup system Role: Developer What did I do: Developed and maintained web based automated backup system. Backend as Perl and flat file based. Tasks were run by either a user trigger, or automatically by crond. System included CGI interfaces to files currently in archive, task creation, task scheduling, and archival options. Tasks were typically perl scripts to send email messages, down load a file by HTTP, FTP, or through a telnet pipe, down load a directory, backup a log file and restart the responsible deamon, and restart unix daemons. Archival options included date stamping and compression. Ordering new domains from the Internic, the configuring DNS, HTTP, and SMTP for those new domains. QuickDNS Pro was a legacy Macintosh based DNS server we used. Technologies: DNS, Bind, QuickDNS Pro System monitoring tools Role: Developer What did I do: Developed CGI based tools for monitoring systems. CGI's were function specific. Using GET forms, we called them from the RedAlert.com monitoring service. CGI functions included sending test email messages, monitoring hard drive use, monitoring CPU activity, and monitoring available memory. Monitoring was configured to notify administrator via pager is certain thresholds were crossed. MRTG was completely rewritten to serve our purposes. Inbounds and out bound gateways were monitored for traffic. MRTG v.2 was intended simply for monitoring router traffic. However, I modified it's C based back end to support and provide graphs for CPU, memory, and hard drive usage. Graphics and HTML pages provided daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly information. As necessary, modified operation system configuration to support SNMP queries on Cisco IOS, Ascent, and Linux platforms. When necessary, contacted others to fix system issues. Coordinated duties with other available administrators. Primary interface was CGI based, with a Perl MySQL back end. Functions included which addresses are available, user verification, who current has reserved addresses as well as which addresses appear to be in use. System included command line based administration tool, for changing avilable IP address information and backing up database. What did I do: Worked with automation engineers and design verification testers to provide tools for testing ATM SONET systems. Developed, programmed, and maintained server software for controlling HP Omniber broadband testsets. Upgraded existing server software for controlling HP Cerjac and Adtech AX4000 testsets.
