Sometimes They Come Back

Rated: NR
Starring: Tim Matheson
Genre: Horror
Released: 1991
Length: 95 min

This made-for-cable horror movie is stylish and well done. The violence is minimal to non-existant; instead the movie relies on the story and subtle details to raise your fear factor. The story revolves around a teacher who moves back to his hometown because he gets a teaching job. Thirty years earlier his brother was killed by a gang of thugs. The thugs were then killed by an oncoming train. Anyhow, as soon as Matheson moves back into town the thugs, one by one, begin returning as his students. Scary stuff. It was the simple things that really kept this movie chilling, like Matheson constantly hearing this eerie train whistle echoing through the town, despite the fact that the train had stopped running like twenty years earlier. Rent it on a rainy night for a good scare.

I give it: 3 1/2 stars
