| PLANET OF THE APES Rated: PG-13 Starring: Mark Whalberg, Tim Roth Genre: Sci Fi Released: 2001 Length: 126 minutes A dissapointing, mundane science fiction epic, that had loads of hype surrounding it. Alas, Tim Burton the director of many great, unusual films strays into the world of mediocracy. A few well done, although predictible, twists can't disguise this very ordinary plot. Whalberg is a spaceman who enters into a magnetic storm, and BAM!!, before you can say orangatang, hes on a planet filled with opressive apes, who arent fond of humans. The special effects are decent, but not out-of-this-world. The one big battle scene, is likewise, fair, but nothing mind-boggling. The movie does nothing wrong, but it also does very little right. Planet of The Apes failed to impress me, for it simply didn't do anything that hasn't been done in a thousand movies before. Granted, there were a few good twists, especially at the end, but even that... It wasn't very logical, and was a bit predictible. The movie had great potentinal, but failed to live up to it. Ah well... if this summer has taught me anything, its that Hollywood will try to fix their mistakes... in the sequel. Bring back Heston! I give it: 2 1/2 stars |
