Death to Smoochy
Death To Smoochy

Rated: R
Starring: Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Danny DeVito
Genre: Black Comedy
Released: 2002
Length: 89 min

Panned by critics and fans alike, I found this to be a decent, but not great, film. The movie centers around the violent trials and tribulations of a kids show. Norton, our protaganist, is the loveable Smoochy, as clean and glossy outside of his costume as he is on the show. Smoochy must steer clear of mobsters, a disgruntled ex-kids' show host and a variety of other tribulations. The main problem with this movie is that it is too straight-forward and it isn't nasty enough. Indeed, the humor is as obvious as a thirty foot billboard. The violence is suggested, and while there are some truely funny bits, the movie just seems to try too hard without ever hitting the right note. With that said, it still may be worth checking out on a rainy day.

I give it: 3 stars
