Plot:  A nameless central character (voiced by Wiley Wiggins) meanders through his dream world, listening to the philosphies of his peers, and mentors.  He grapples with life, death, dreams, the state of being awake, as well as many other concepts.  He is overwhelmed by his dream state, but eventually longs to wake up.
Critique:  Waking Life is a brilliantly creative, unique and flowing film.  It is a gorgeous creation of depth and harmony.  The film soars at a level of superior craftsmanship and artistry.  Great motion pictures transcend normal films, and like Before Night Falls last year, Waking Life is transcendent in its artful beauty.  Although both films are drastically different in plot and approach, they share a basic thirst to go beyond what has been done.  Waking Life is ambitious in ways few films have ever truly tried to be.  Glover Gill's score adds significantly to the film's pensive mood and ambiguous destination.  The new art form in the film is very beautiful.  Richard Linklater's direction is wonderful and warm in unusual ways, and his script is funny, subtle, intelligent, and adventurous.

Waking Life is a triumph of a new style, and a success in challenging storytelling.  The film is not easy to experience, and requires effort from the viewer.  If the viewer is ready to meet the demands of the film he/she will find the film very rewarding.  The film is extraordinary in its control and focus.  It delves into interesting ideas and concepts, while delivering warm and enjoyable entertainment.  Linklater successfully balances the character interactions with humor and spirit.  In my opinion its not important to look at all the philosophical dialogues separately and comprehend them perfectly, but instead to absorb the wonderful character interplay as a whole.
                   In conclusion,
Waking Life is a beautiful masterpiece.  Its new style of art and approach are visionary.  I highly recommend Waking Life, a new classic.
