They find themselves attempting to sifting through German boat after boat after they lost their own boat and are forced to pilot the U-boat. It doesn't take the crew long to delve into predicament after predicament, including fast paced sequences between them and the army of Germans that they can't escape from without first prooving themselves. |
| Critique: In a film like this that is completely brainless and unoriginal you are left to only rate it on its entertainment value. That was almost enough, however it fell short of a good rating. It was completely suspenseful and compelling, however it did not vary much and was thus a little monotonous. There was no risks, or challenges, everything depended on the domino effect of edge of your seat type situations. It does not give you much of a breath of fresh air for more than a minute or two. I should probably add there is no character development, or even much of a plot, as you can tell my by completely- er... concise retelling of the plot. However, my guess is you could have deduced that yourself. The acting was mediocre at best, and completely unconvincing. However Jonathon Mostow did a relatively good direction job, and made up as much ground as he could. He breathed suspense into the film which aided it a good deal, but as I said not quite enough. The script doesn't aspire for much, and I really don't think the producers of this film cared either. The water effects were impressive, but not excellent. The ending was especially bland, and that really put a nail in the coffin for my rating on this one. See it if you have nothing better to risk your enjoyment on, but don't depend on it for a good, relaxing time. review by supernothingman, if you have any questions or comments email me at [email protected] |
