| Critique: Screwed is a hilarious comedy, that is highly enjoyable and even smart at times. I really like what Norm MacDonald's work. He was very funny on Saturday Night Live, and almost as funny in his first starring movie Dirty Work. His new film is just about as funny, as well as being fresh and off beat. Film critics in general are not big fans of his, but I could care less. One of the best things about Screwed, is that for a modern comedy there is almost no gross-out material. It is tasteful, and full of life. Don't get me wrong, not every joke is funny, but Screwed is funny much more often than not. It is not so funny that it is any masterpiece, but it is worth your time in my humble opinion. The characters in the film are original, and worth rooting for. Danny DeVito is fantastic, as the weird mortician who they allie with. His hair and makeup, as well as personality are so absurd you cannot help but laughing. Some parts of the film are just plain stupid, but that is all part of the charm. For the most part, the twists and turns are very unexpected, and the silliness is effecting. The script is pretty witty, and fully utilizes the comic talents of everyone involved. In conclusion, Screwed is an overlooked, fun off the wall comedy that works very well. It has a talented cast that shines, as well as unusual characters, and a pretty fun script. There is no gross-out garbage humor that we see too often in comedies these days. review by supernothingman |
