Plot:  Ira Kane (David Duchovny) and Harry Block (Orlando Jones) are two college professors in Arizona who decide to research the landing of a meteor that struck the earth the night before.  The meteor carries life forms.  Furthermore, the professors are able to study the unusual life for several days.  The life forms brought by the meteor multiply quickly, and evolve quickly.  However, the government takes over the site and leaves the two professors in the dust.  However, they insist on conducting their research anyway, and when the government fails the two professors must save Arizona from the alien species infesting the earth.
Critique:  Evolution is a persistently gross motion picture that contains dull and unintelligent storytelling.  The plot it formulaic, and even with gross twists Evolution has very little that the audience hasn't already seen.  The screenplay of the film is unsubstantial, and the dialogue is trite.  The story insults the intelligence of the viewer with its sloppy methods.  Additionally, the action is uninspired, and the conflicts are tedious.  The filmmaking and the acting are lazy and lackluster.  The cast and filmmakers try so hard to be amiable and cute that the film feels forced.  Indeed, it is hard not to compare this failure with Ivan Reitman's charming GhostbustersGhostbusters was witty and intelligent.  Furthermore, it was naturally amiable, and inspired in its ludicrous scenarios.  Evolution seems to know too well how ludicrous its concept is, thus it loses any ability to be wry.
The filmmakers appear to want to create a relaxed environment, and invite cheesy and campy elements into their film.  However, they should have been careful because the film contains silly plot concepts.  To make a watchable film with a silly plot a film needs a certain degree of intelligence, inventiveness, or both.  Yet, the plot continuously relies on recycled formulas, and fake dialogue.  It all adds of to a hackneyed product.
                    In conclusion,
Evolution has sloppy filmmaking and unconvincing acting.  The screenplay lacks any adventurous aspects, and the dialogue is ridiculously trite.  I do not recommend Evolution, a wasteful and tedious motion picture.
