Areas:

(all directions start in Market Square in Midgard unless specified otherwise)

Areas are listed in no particular order (too lazy to sort them out, use Find capability of your browser to find what you need).

At the end of the description the general directions are given in brackets []. Detailed directions will come later as I note them down.

Some areas are not covered for one of these reasons:

1-     I didn’t find them.
2-     Nothing interesting exp-wise or gear-wise in them.
3-     They are too confusing to navigate.
4-     They are just plain boring.

Graecia: You cannot recall from Graecia. Nice area with useful gear (jeweled girdle, lion skin, bracelet with runestone). You can kill some of the basic mobs around level 15 but it’ll be hard. [Go on the river south of the captain in Midgaard, go west until you can go north to a volcano. From there go east when you can and then explore north and west until you find the entrance to Graecia].

Elven forest: Nice low level area. beware of the elven princess and her warp blade. Warp blade can teleport you randomly in the mud when she hits you with it. Althought this can be quite fun, you can end up in high-level dangerous area. Recall quickly. Elven gear is nice too for low levels. Not accessible after level 15. [west of Midgaard. Second exit north once you are out of Midgaard].

Chessboard: Average exps unless you are level 7+. In this case you can kill elf, oil beast and queens to get real nice exps. Do not attempt the jabberwocky and Flame (which has nice +1 con leggings, good-aligned only) before level 9 unless you are very well equipped. Not accessible above level 9. [3w 2s w].

Temple halls: Nice area for quick exps. Not dangerous at all because no mobs are aggressive. Avoid dragons (they are easy but breath fire and can destroy your gear if you do not kill them quickly). Avoid hydras at low levels because they have many attacks and can kill you before you can react. Nice area to go in and practice spells when you are higher levels. [2n w]

Shire: I always hated this area. It’s boring but you gotta live with it. Average gear. One ring is nice. Silvery cloak is very nice low-mid level cloak but beware of the spells of the elven wizard who wears it. Toddlers are useful to practice pick-pocket because they will normally not attack you if you fail (have to verify this though). [5w, all north].

Moria: Real fun area but dangerous. I ventured in at level m9/c10/w10 and almost got killed a few times. Mobs are very easy but they gang up on you so be prepared. 90% of them do not see invisibility so enjoy it. Has nice potions and acceptable gear but you gotta know where to look... [6e, 5n].

White plume mountain: (Soon to be inaccessible for complete makeover) Very fun area but very hazardous. Ghouls are deadly because they paralyze and there is a lot of them in the same room. Area has a nice weapon for neutral players (The Wave). [West on silver river from captain in Midgaard. The north on the way to the volcano].

Old Thalos: Be prepared to get swarmed by annoying evil lamias (althought they are nice exps). I ventured in at level 12/13/13 approx. and had a hard time at the first room because 5-6 lamias ganged up on me and they can see invisible. Average gear but has many different stones you can use for inset. [Track lamia once in the eastern desert south of New Thalos]

Drow city: Haven’t visited the Drow City on Criterion yet but in general it’s nice exps and gear. Drow houses contains rooms with 6-8 aggressive drows (including spellcasters) so beware. [Go east all you can on river near midgard, then south all you, then west until you get in underground cave and look around there].

Kerofk: My little exp heaven. Mobs are mid-high level and not aggressive so you can walk around freely. Starting at level 10 (considering you have nice gear or can flee rapidly) you can kill militia man and citizens. Wait until they are all alone in a room and attack. Flee if more then 1 gang up on you. After level 25-30 you can think of taking on innguard, council guard, etc... Guildmasters can also be found in there. Gear is not bad but by the time you will be able to kill the mob wearing it you should (theorically) have better gear already. [6e, all n, 2e, 4-5n until you can go east, then go all east when you can otherwise follow the only exit left in the room].

Skexie and Gelfling: These areas go hand in hand and are very fun. The gear in these areas is very useful and nice (feathered belt, skexie feather, spiked helm, fiery orange medallion, etc...). Do not attempt the mob wearing these items before level 10+ and be ready to heal yourself or flee. Many spellcasting mobs so beware (their name or title makes it evident that they cast spells). No aggressive mobs except rats and the mulichort. This is where you find the skexie challenge. You need to kill 9-10 different mobs in this challenge, get badges and redeem them with a god. You will then be able to get skexie quest items which are usually very very nice. [On silver river from captain in midgaard go all west, all south, e s s w then walk all south on the path].

Redferne’s residence: Very small, empty area except for it’s guardian: The Grand Knight of Paladins. He’s not very easy but his armor and weapon is very nice armor for good-aligned. [somewhere in south midgaard near the promenade].

Gypsy village: Non-aggressive area. Mobs are mid-high level. Can buy the nice bag of many pockets (big container that can be held). Some nice items but avoid fighting the palmreader. I never tested it on Criterion but he usually removes hps permanently! [all east, n e e north until you can go east, then go east all you can otherwise follow only exit left in the room].

Monk monastery: Not a bad area for level 8+. Monk are nice exps but can help each other so be careful. No good gear in there. Do NOT fight the guy chopping wood with his hands outside of the monastery. He’s the grand master of flowers and can use quivering palm on you (instant kill). [west all you and then north once in the shire].

New Thalos: Non-aggressive area. Do NOT attack guards if you are not high level because everyone can gang up on you VERY fast. Elvira (east of market square) sells nice potions but they are expensive. [same as going to gypsy village but right before the entrance to gypsy go south, then east until you can go south, then east all you can, n and then east all you can].

Undersea: Never been there myself but it’s a VERY high level area near graecia. Avoid at all cost before level 40-50. [somewhere off the graecian ocean].

Land down under (roo land): Nice area with acceptable gear. Roo gear is not bad, especially for thieves or monk of low-mid levels. Some spellcasters but nothing major. Eucalyptus trees are nice exps. [west or east on silver river, type exit here and there until you see eucalyptus river].

Troglodytes caves: Very fun area to practice area effect spells for high levels. NO good gear or close but a lot of evil trogs that will gang up on you very quickly. Maze-like so use "track trog" to find stuff to kill. Area is connected to Rhyodin which is connected to eastern desert (not easy to find). [from eastern desert track coyote and then track trog].

Abyss: Haven’t been there on Criterion but this area has real nice gear but it is hard. Almost every mob is aggressive and evil with spell effects or fireshield or sanctuary. Do not visit below level 35-40. [no idea]

Mount Olympus: Area connected to Graecia. You will find the greek gods. Haven’t been there yet but gear is usually above average although most gods cast spells or destroy gear because they hit hard. [from Graecia track zeus. Otherwise I think it’s south of Hercules. explore].

The Midgard sewers: So many newbies died in that horrible, boring, maze-like place. Weird area where some exist are only one way. No good gear or so. Average exps, do not waste time in there. [down from dump, down from some guildmaster].

High Tower of sorcery: Interesting and varied area. LOTSA spellcasters but they aren’t too powerful so you should be able to kill them without too much gear destruction if you are level 25-30+. Some gear like spectacles and such are not bad. Masters on the last floor are tougher and cast much more often. Grand mistress has the fabled weapon: the ebony kris. It casts paralyze on you everytime you hit with it! Be careful because she uses it AGAINST you.

Mirkwood and Arachnos: I put these two areas together because sometimes you can’t tell the difference. Area isn’t easy but has some good gear. Yevaud, a dragon, has black knight visor which is nice for warriors. Pontiff headdress is nice boost for wisdom. Not an area to go for exps because it’s confusing and aggressive but nice for gear or just for fun. [a few times east outside midgaard then south].

Midgard cemetery: If you like undeads it’s a nice place but don’t exps great exps or great gear because it has none of that. Aggressive so low levels should beware. [somewhere in south midgaard].

Castle Python: Average areas  for exps. Close to ZERO good gear. Safe area to wander in. Kinda boring. [a few times east outside midgaard then south].

Eastern desert: Very confusing area. Hell of a maze. You gotta use track or know where you are going. A few mid-level aggressive mobs. Purple worm is toughest mob in the area. Too far to be worth the trip for exps. Gear is very average. [south of new thalos].

Dwarven mines: Not a bad area for level 15+. Nice exps and nice gear like dwarven gloves and dwarven ring. No surprises except a wraith (or specter?) hidden down somewhere. [on the way to new thalos and gypsy village head north before gypsy village. Look for mineshaft].

The Great Pyramid: Very cool area. Good for level 20+. Very nice gear but some bad surprises like the level-draining specter. Explore carefully and enjoy. [track purple in great eastern desert. the entrance is 1 room before the purple worm. Look for a up exit].
