Salem, Mass., April 20, 2006-  The Center for Performing Arts at Salem State College will perform the romantic comedy The Country Wife on April 20, 21, 22 and 27, 28, 29 at 8 p.m. with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on the 30th on campus at the Mainstage Auditorium. Tickets are $15; $10 for students and seniors; free to SSC student with a valid ID.

The play, set in the seventeenth century, written by William Wycherley (1640-1715), was intended to offend and mock the rich, but also, to keep them entertained. Now, years later, audiences are still laughing at Wycherley’s witty dialogue. Director David Allen George stated “the play’s selection had as much to do with the particular style of comedy as it did with the excellent writing of some of the brightest dialogue imaginable.”

George has put together a terrific ensemble lead by Devon Scalisi as Horner and Andrew Scannell and Christina Kingsbury as Mr. and Mrs. Pinchwife. Not to mention the elaborate costume design by Jane Hillier-Walkowiak and set design by Whitney “Whizz” White; Paul Mitri was also on hand as fight coordinator.

For tickets call (978) 542-6290 or visit the website at www.salemstate.edu/arts.
