| Tavie's Story |
It
happened the day the Kids in the Hall were having a webcast to
promote their 2000 tour. November 15, 1999 to be exact. I was
in the audience of the webcast, and extremely excited to be there
because it was a very hard show to get into. I was with a friend
of mine, a friend of the troupe, who found me a good seat where
I could see the action on the stage, and then disappeared. So
the webcast is going on, and it's funny and thrilling and all
the things you'd expect it to be, and I don't even mind that I'm
pretty much watching it by myself with no friends sitting with
me.
Then
someone asked a question about the Kids and email, and Dave said,
"I tried sending email to Tavie once, who's in the room somewhere
tonight, and spend the next two months trying to convince her
it was me." Well, I had to freak out as quietly as possible
in my seat, and was sort of just grinning really broadly and hiding
my face in my hands at the same time and everyone in the room
turning to look at me, when someone put their hand on my arm and
patted me comfortingly. It was one of the women sitting next to
me, someone I'd never met before, dark, curly hair, big warm smile.
I was grateful for that little gesture, just a little bit of confirmation
that This Moment Was Really Happening, and this stranger gave
it to me.
After
the show wrapped up, the woman turned to me and said, "Hi,
you're Tavie, aren't you. I'm Crissy, I'm Dave's new girlfriend,
he's told me so much about you. I've really wanted to meet you."
There
couldn't have been a more amazing, touching introduction for me.
It sewed it up right on the spot, that Dave had finally found
The Right Girl. I found out later that they'd only been going
out a week or so at that point. My friend came back to me after
Crissy'd left and said, "Have you met Crissy? What did you
think of her? Does she get the Tavie seal of approval?"
And
boy did she ever. :)
