Airline Review 4:

Northwest Airlines

Is it worth it or not?

This site has all my schoolwork and other things.

My family and I always fly Northwest Airlines for all of our travels. This is partly because it is the airline that my dad’s company tends to work with and partly because of other reasons. These reasons are what I am going to talk about through out this review. Northwest Airlines is a pretty good choice to fly. Their Business class and Economy class are average and they try to make your flight as fast and as enjoyable and as convenient as possible.

For example, if you were walking into the airport you will first see a series of signs that tell you where the check-in counter is. You look for Northwest and you find it. They have a lot of check-in counters so there are not very long lines; this is very convenient especially if you are a frequent flier. The ladies and men at the check-in counter are very nice and greet you with kind smiles. They work as fast as they can to get you to your plane quickly and safely.

After you have checked in if you are flying business class or if you are a gold elite or a platinum elite (depending on your miles and how much you fly) then you are allowed to go to this club where they have snacks and drinks and they have tables where you can sit. They also have a large screen T.V. that is usually playing CNN. On top of this TV they usually have a lighted screen thing that shows you the stock market rates. They have a series of magazines and newspapers that you may take with you and read on the plane. And the magazines and newspapers that they have are some of the best in the world.  The club’s bathrooms are stupendous, with showers and changing rooms as well as toilets. They also have makeup tables. And the best thing is that all of this is included in your airline ticket so no need to look around for a restaurant and take out your money from your suitcase et cetera. It is all there for you. They also have a system where they call out every flight and when it is boarding time so that you know and won’t have to keep looking at the clock frantically.      Once you board the plane you are greeted by the air hosts and hostesses that will take care of you throughout the flight. You then go to your seat and sit down and put on your seatbelt. There is a magazine in the front seat pocket that gives all the movies they are showing during this flight. They usually show about 3 movies sometimes more and sometimes less depending on the length of the flight. The movies are usually one for children and adults and two for adults only. This might not be a good thing because there are a lot of children that ride this airline. So if they don’t have anything to do they tend to kick the seats in front of them and wander around the aisles and basically bother the other passengers.   The hostesses and hosts tend to be nice but they are pretty old and some of their concepts are pretty old too. So, some of their concepts do not work. For example, I was not feeling well so my dad asked the air host for some help and what he basically did was point the air vent at me and put it full blast but the air only made me feel worse because it wasn’t the motion of the plane that was making me sick, it was a virus. And he also came back with some more vomit bags. They are nice and all but because they are older they don’t have a lot of patience especially with people that do not speak English very well.

The food is pretty good. Their choices vary from caviar to hamburger steak. Their kid’s meals are pretty kid oriented although some of it is not very good. It really depends on the type of person though. The seats are pretty comfortable, or as comfortable as they can be if you are riding economy class.

Business class entertainment options are different. They have more movies for kids and for adults and the best thing is you can pick them. There is also a greater variety. For example if my brother is watching a movie called Robots I could be watching a movie called Monster in Law. So my entertainment choice does not revolve on the reviews and on what sort of movies the attendants have but instead I can choose my own. They also have strategy games and things for kids and adults so if you want to take a break from watching a movie you can just play one of the games. This helps kids and their parents because that way they don’t have to hear their kids saying the one excuse that lets them bring more toys, “It is to play with on the plane,” and I know that I  have certainly heard that one before(usually end up with an extra carry on bag on your shoulder).

Seats in Business class are very comfortable. They can be reclined to almost a flat position. You can also put it just about any other positions. They also have footrests which you can lift up and adjust with the buttons right next to you.

Although business class has great entertainment, the hostesses tend to be elderly and are not used to kids in business class since it usually tends to be businessmen. But I should not really generalize because it really depends on the flight that you are taking. For example, I was once on this flight that had a lot of young hostesses and they were very nice and very helpful.  Yet once I was on another flight that they weren’t so helpful. But this has only happened to me once before so overall they have great service. They do tend to be nice but are not as patient with us since they are not used to us.

Overall I think that Northwest Airlines is an airline to fly for long distances. Although there are a few places where there could be improvement, this airline is one of the best that I have ever flown.
