FIG

Fig is a two year old Giant Green Iguana, she was sent to us by the Humane Society. She was found in an apartment hall where she had been for several weeks without light, heat or proper food and water. Very sick and week she was slow to recover, responding slowly to the liquid I fed her, but eventually eating greens and enjoying her baths.

On taking her to the vet my worst fears were confirmed, she had MBD. She was given a Calcium shot, at the time if you grabbed her lower jaw you could squish it together because her bones were so weak. Afterwards I continued feeding her calcium at home and exposing her to plenty of UVB light, warmth, and humidity. Her bones are now hard as a rock, and it looks as though she had recovered, a success case if I ever saw one. She is very affectionate and curious, a delight to the whole family. And to think, a few more days in that dark hall...she would have been gone....
UPDATE: FIG passed away on August 2, 2000. MBD caught up to her in the end...
