This is Me!

As if there aren't enough support sites for military spouses already, here comes another one. I figured I needed to do it for self satisfaction. That I might just be able to help someone out, really makes this worthwhile to me. I feel that support can never be too much. First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Cris Jenness. I served in the United States Navy from 1982 to 1991. My travels in the Navy included NSA Souda Bay, Crete, Greece; NSA New Orleans; Naval Magazine, Subic Bay PI; USS Dixon, San Diego; SIMA San Diego. I was honorably discharged on 17 Feb 1991. A month later I joined the US Navy Reserves.

In 1992, my husband received orders to Marine Detachment, Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, where we stayed for 5 years. It was an eye opener for me and found out that I too was part of a special group. A group of women unlike I had seen before--The Marine wives. In the summer of 1996, we made our move to Camp Pendleton. I was home! Not only back to my "home sweet home" San Diego, but now in the community that I belonged. A community that only few can and want to be a part of. I decided then that I wanted to be a Key Volunteer. To be able to offer assistance and understanding to the new and young wives who haven't realiazed that they too, served their country. Being a KV gave me an opporunity to broaden the extent of my goal. I joined committees, you name it I was in it. I was in the MC Ball Committee, eventually became a Key Volunteer Coordinator, a LINKS Mentor, and anything else I could get my hands on. I started coffees and tried to assist the wives, new and young to the military, to understand the "whys" and the "hows" of the military life. With great command support, my job was easy. We made great impact in the way families were welcomed. We created welcome aboard packages, support phone calls, baby showers, going aways, informative coffees, homecoming plannings, family day planning, you name it, we did it. I guess that is what you can call passion. I can proudly and honestly say that 3d LAAD was a very "family friendly" command. Among all these things, I was a girl scout leader, team member in the Service Unit, and school volunteer. But worry you not, my family does not suffer. I always make sure that my family comes first. Heck, with all these things I do, my husband and I managed to produce some real cutesies, Ashley and Cassie.

We are currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. We made our move here in February 99 and recently extended for another tour. We will be here until 2005!

My goal for this site is to assist (as much as possible) anyone who has questions or concerns regarding the military and it's way of life. Whether, you are a new wife, a girlfriend, a fiancee, or just decide to help out the wives in your husband's command, then I am here for you. I have also provided you with some links dedicated especially for women, some are military and some are not.

Now that you have an idea of who I am, please go back home and let's begin our tour. I hope you find my pages helpful and please don't forget to sign my guestbook before you leave.
