7/04/04: High Voltage - Richmond, VA

Welcome to a special Independence Day edition of High Voltage! Well, there's nothing particularly special other than the fact that it is the 4th of July, but we still have a lot of action for you tonight! Let's get right to the ring for our first match!

Match #1
The Amazing Red vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.

We had cruiserweight action to kick off the show with The Amazing Red taking on Chavo Guerrero Jr. Both of these men have had a tough time as of late and a win here could help them get on the right track. The match moved quickly, but it was over before any real flow could be established. In the end, Red hit a beautiful top-rope Frankensteiner to get the pinfall on Chavo.

Red pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. after a top-rope Frankensteiner in 0:03:48.
Rating: *** 1/4

Red gets back on the winning track while Chavo will have to go back to the drawing board.

Match #2
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Eric Angle

This was an interesting match as Monty Brown took on Eric Angle in a match between two guys really trying to find their niche in Global Championship Wrestling. Eric Angle doesn't want to be seen as only Kurt Angle's brother, but rather as a tremendous competitor. Thus far, he's doing a really good job of that. Monty Brown doesn't care who is whose brother though as he took it right to Eric Angle. After a lot of back and forth action, Brown had Angle set up for the Pounce, but when he went for it, Angle had hooked the ropes to stop his momentum, quickly capitalized and hit Brown with the Angle Slam to pick up a big win.

Eric Angle pinned Monty Brown with the Angle Slam in 0:08:01.
Rating: *** 1/2

With this win, Eric Angle remains undefeated and makes one more small step toward establishing his own identity separate from his family name. A couple more big wins and we may have a bonafied undefeated streak on our hands.

Match #3
Nick Dinsmore/"Ironman" Rob Conway vs. Triple X ("Primetime" Elix Skipper/Low-Ki)

Tag team action on High Voltage with Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway going at it against Elix Skipper and Low-Ki of Triple X. Conspicuous by her absence was Daffney, who usually accompanies Triple X to the ring. Maybe this is another step in the weird transformation of the third man in Triple X, Christopher Daniels. The weird things going on with Daniels must be weighing on Skipper and Low-Ki, as they looked a little distant, but wrestled a solid match never the less (they're THAT talented). A great tag team match here that could have gone either way, but eventually, Elix Skipper got caught. Dinsmore dropped him with a German suplex which was followed by a Rob Conway flying elbowdrop and that was it. A big win for the boys from Louisville.

Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore defeated Triple X (Elix Skipper and Low-Ki) when Conway pinned Skipper after a flying elbowdrop in 0:11:32.
Rating: **** 1/4

Match #4
MAIN EVENT
Justin Credible vs. "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam

We had a quality main event as Justin Credible took on "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam, who is fresh off a victory over Tommy Dreamer in a Hardcore Match at Super Cade. Everything was clicking in this match as the two former ECW standouts brought it to a GCW ring. Justin Credible is very familiar with RVD and has seen his unorthodox style before, so he had a good game plan. What Credible didn't plan on though was his knee giving out on him. Near the end of the match, Credible jumped off the second turnbuckle and hit a double axehandle, but came down awkwardly on his knee. His right knee buckled and he hit the mat with a scream. A testament to Credible's toughness as he tried to keep going, pulling himself to his feet, but his knee was gone, allowing RVD to hit a spin kick to floor him. Credible was a sitting duck as RVD nailed the Five Star Frog Splash for the victory.

Rob Van Dam pinned Justin Credible with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:08:00.
Justin Credible suffered a torn ligament in his right knee. He will be out for 3 to 4 months.
Rating: *** 3/4

The medical staff came down and checked on Justin Credible, helping him to the back. We found out later that when Credible hit the mat, he tore the ligament in his right knee. An unfortunate turn of events for Credible, as it looks like he's going to be on the shelf until at least October. We wish him a speedy recovery.
