We presently have 3 Blue and Gold Macaws as members of our family.

BUDD

First of all there is Budd. He was a chick from my first clutch of Blue and Gold babies. Of course, being the tough hearted breeder that I am, I had to keep one. He was hatched on April 13, 1995 and weighed in at 18 grams. He was handfed from 2 weeks of age and has never stopped being a big baby. Although he did go through a "terrible twos" stage, even then he remained a loving guy [with the occasional nip, of course]. He now weighs in at a whopping 1466 grams, so he is one big guy. He talks very well and thinks he is pretty smart when he tells the other birds to be quiet - when in actuality it is him making all the noise.

Budd is a real ham and will talk to anyone who comes into the house. When someone comes, he always says "Hi Budder". When the vacuum is running near his cage, he comes down and looks at the floor saying "Just look at that mess, Budd". He will even do that when the lawnmower is being run under the window by his cage. I guess he figures vacuum, lawnmower - what's the difference. Budd loves to be a part of everything that is going on in the house. I think he figures that there should be no goings on in the house that do not include him. He has recently taken up singing and sings the Barney song. Actually sings it quite well. So cute to hear him sing "I love you, You love me". He babbles the rest of the words, but we know what he is telling us!

CHOMPER

Next we have Chomper. He was hatched on October 16, 1996. Chomp was quite ill when he was about a month old and had to be force fed and medicated. When he was finally hungry enough to eat on his own, he would almost swallow the spoon. Started calling him Chomper then and it just stuck. We got so attached to him when he was sick that we couldn't part with him. He is a real sweetheart - a very placid bird. He also talks very well. People who go into the bird room get a kick out of him as he just looks at them and says "Stop it!" He is smaller than Budd, only weighing in at 1320 grams. In this picture, he is sitting on his favorite roost - the garbage.

PA

Last, but not least, we have our male Macaw - we just call him Pa. We have no idea of his age. He lost his mate last year due to an oil spill we had in our house while living in the Great White North. He is currently looking for a new mate - if there are any beautiful female Blue and Golds interested. For a breeding bird, he is one placid guy. Any girl would be proud to have him as a mate!

Here is a picture of Pa [on top of log] with his now lost mate. They produced the most beautiful babies, although they weren't the best parents. We hope to find him a girl soon, as we sure do miss having baby Macaws to look after.

Please keep checking back. I am working on my site and more pages will be added soon.
