C.C.C. Cricket Team Online
vs Centaurs at KGV on Apr 6, 2002
Two overs to go and the melodious tones of Jack Lumbersaurus echoed across KGV and we all knew the fat lady had sung CeeeeeeeCeeeeeeCeee - another cricket season had passed never again to be repeated. Of course there will be more seasons, but each one is unique and as I see my own personal quota being rapidly exhausted I feel saddened that we could not have made more of our cup run. It seemed like the Gods didn't want us to fill the cupboard with silver - the silver we will take home is the 'Baba catch' - from here on called 'taking a baba', Weatherman's bowling, George's fielding, Osama clean bowling Boothy, Rabbi's slogging (and Batting), Wino's untiring effort patrolling the boundary and Macka's unsupported batting.

With only 11 bone fide, 'played 3', CCC players to choose from in total, things started to look grim when Angry emailed that KaiTak were jealous of CCC's performance and Cathay had called him to fly. Fother's rang on Friday evening to say he had pulled his 'muller muscle' and couldn't walk. Down to 9 ourselves !!!

Centaurs have moved on with the times. They have the full Pak attack. Lost the toss, natch. Agreed to bat. Berger and I led off but some would say it was a small partnership of 2 as I watched one crack into my off stump - I used the F word - very un-CCC-like. I don't have the score book with me and rely on Alice's short term recall which can be checked with Jet. Neil top scored with 38, George struck a quick 10 or so at the end, Roger pinch hit 15 or thereabouts and Weatherman seemed to hit a few. In the end we managed 148, which it can be noted, would not quite have won the game the week before either!!

Jet was fired up in the field yelling all kinds of inanities, the worst of which was asking me to 'marshall the troops or was it troupes'. Berger then started calling me 'Marshall Duck' from 3rd man and it was becoming hard to concentrate.

Baba was a mate brought by Osama. Grocer's mate's comment was "he is not a good cricketer". This observation was proven to be true in the first couple of overs but we were glad to have 11 on the park with the aid of Weatherman's son, Gerry. 1/2 the Pak attack could bat having made about 280 in the last 3 weeks - it appeared he was about to double his aggregate in a single sitting. Then he spooned one wide of Baba off Weatherman. Baba either didn't see it or mistakenly thought it was going a bit quick (he had already used the hand withdrawal technique on a previous occasion). At the last possible moment he realized the ball had no pace on it and he took a step to his left and shot his left hand out and behind him. The ball stuck like shit on bear fur. An over later Keith Hemshall was back in the pavilion and we started to take regular wickets. In the end we just couldn't make it happen. We needed a Muller 3 wickets in 2 overs.

We fought it out and came up one over short in the end.

So endeth the lesson for 2001/2002.

See you ALL at the ladies night where we can hear where it was we went wrong. Actually I am usually told each Saturday night by our scorer - to Alice, a special thanks from all the players and supporters at CCC for a fantastic job and her never faltering support.

Here, Here! At least to the bit about Alice!

Thank you to all for my first season and for making me feel part of what is obviously a great club. The highlight of any club is obviously the people and the great times (including all the banter and bull----....an absolute must for a good club feeling)  I have enjoyed it all. Like all, I would have loved to have won a few more (including Saturday!) and to have made a few runs.
