C.C.C. Cricket Team Online
vs Kai Tak at Mission Road on Feb 16, 2002
Jet:

Obviously, my previous article on the battle of averages had inspired Stead.  Scores of 129, 73 and 106 (all NOT OUTs) increases his average from a mediocre 80.20 to a more respectable 124.29.  Meanwhile, the only other "serious" contender had skillfully avoided any batting duties.  (Actually, Osama's mate Nasir, who remains unbeaten as a C.C.C. player, is yet to post an average - with 180 runs in his account.  Yet I was informed, by you know who, that one must complete 5 innings before he can challenge the title.)  Empowered as the selector and skipper, plus having the mainland schoolboys as his final challenge, this coming match might become one of the classics in C.C.C. history!

M Eames   12 Matches   12 Innings    5 Not Outs   870 Runs   124.29 Ave
D Jones      8 Matches    4 Innings    3 Not Outs    66 Runs    66.00 Ave
Weathers:

Great news! I guess we must have beaten every team in the league (over the years) Must meet this master blaster who can only score at 2 a ball. Sure to get a game batting alongside the skipper as he obviously poses a threat to the captain's batting average. Remember the last guy who had the temerity to challenge the skipper. Bond's son in law? Going for the second run, Jonsie took a diving head butt to his mid riff going to secure a very convincing run-out! (At Sandy Bay)

Hope the teas worked well. Fines master sub - I assume grocer was dealt with in the normal manner. Should get fined for putting on whites!

Just like Man United after a revival. Will Jonsie now retract his retirement threat??? The story continues.

P.S. Now back from the Phils. Tanned. Fueled on king prawns. Now looking very much like a San Mig bottle. Rarin to go.
Lumber:

Good call on the averages, Jet.  We notice that RAC (Regularly Absent Captain) was to be next in against Kai Tak and presume that, if another wicket had fallen he would (a) have been delighted if it was Stead's and (b) have sent somebody else in next in order to protect his meagre average.  After all, it is only just over 50% of Grocer's "close season" average of last summer and we ALL know about THAT after at least 101 retellings in the Top Bar.

Grocer, better just check that everybody does, actually, know about it. Better tell the Top Bar again, just to make sure.

What's the point?
