What a great match report. Thank shit I don't have to do that any more. I notice that Jet is more effective as an opening bowler under a more mature captain and manages to complete his 10 overs whereas Weathers is rested so that he survives to bowl another week. A lesson for young skippers and one that Steve Waugh could do well to emulate. As it is Weathers is now forced into a 2 week layoff in the Pines to allow him to bowl his 6-8 overs max against Mainlanders unless they put out a very poor team (unlikely).

Good to see Bapu found his length - obviously didn't have to field off his own bowling - probably paid a couple of the lads to scout the boundary and areas beyond. The team tactician who bowled Sher Lama only 4 overs showed a comprehensive lack of understanding of the intricacies of the game and a degree of ineptitude in assessing any player's ability, that I thought could only be matched by CCC captains (I trust Lama was Tartars captain), but in any event was probably financially remunerated for his sacrifice either by his own team or Stead.

I would have to say the report is remarkable for the scant mention of Grocer who, on the phone, informed me that he virtually won the match single handedly. First he said he told Stead to call heads which of course was right and then when Stead said bat, he was the only team member who agreed and showed support. While not being called on to bat, pre-innings he told Stead where to hit the ball and obviously it worked otherwise how would he have made 129 not. Lastly, the leg side was impenetrable when he was fielding in what used to be the Clive Lloyd position, forcing the batsmen to try to hit over his head. Grocer said this worked well for 15 overs until he had a quiet word in Stead's ear and encouraged him to put 2 players at cow corner who could both drop catches equally well but would stop the 4s.

Basically it was Grocer's match and he hardly got a mention. I don't understand it. Well done lad.
