vs Lamma at Mission Road on Oct 25, 2001
It was always going to be tough. I won the toss and inserted Lamma against the might of a slightly depleted, but only in years, CCC attack. Jet from the softball end and DT from the pavilion. Jet bowled very well. DT went for 16 off 2 as the occasion with the new ball over whelmed him. The low point for DT was when he was hit in the head by a ball being returned to the bowler, with all the usual CCC finesse - into the sun, high and when the bowler is not paying any attention at all. It very nearly knocked him out and he was glad of the rest at deep fine leg. The first wicket fell at 128 in the 18 th over. With out Slackly and wino running their respective arses off as boundary scouts, the score could have been enormous. The Mullah took the first wicket and then proceeded to have the Berger at deep long on drop a sitter while he was listening (not talking) on the boundary to Claire before she left to go shopping. To the Berger's  credit he said he was not distracted at all and the ball just popped out.  The following ball Ahmed dropped a low chance that none of the over 50's would have seen if it had been directed to them. we battled on and I was very proud of the lads in difficult circumstances. Osama saw Salim Malik off for 8 which was great. Just the ONE bowling point thank you.

Them 257 off their 35, 17 wides. Ahmed took 2 for 32 off his 10, Jet 0 for 38  off 10 and Raymondo an unlucky 1 for 71 off 10. Nasir was also expensive. he was Grocer's other mate and helped Osama carry the grenade launcher to the park.

We started our reply with the Bergermeister, very nicely kitted up, and Jet Lee - ready for the big opening partnership (in fact it was 6). It was a quacker for Jet who deserves to bat much lower down. Slacky asked if Jet's batting had improved over the last 3 years or whether opening with him was tactical - the answer is I don't know on either account. Slacky lasted 3 balls and didn't trouble Alice very much. The Doc strode to the wicket ready to take Zubair apart, which he did for a while with a great 32. Wino, Osama and the Mullah found it hard going in the middle and retired to the beers at the boundary. Nasir who was inducted into CCC as a bowler, which he wasn't really, struck mostly boundaries. he was joined by our skipper with the score at 7 for 62. 148 runs later, 3 BATTING points thank you and a century to Nasir as he was talked through every shot by your truly, resulted in us being just 47 runs short.

Disappointing in a way but hard work for CCC when our opposition were mostly sunday players. 4 bonus points and DBS at KGV on Saturday to look forward to.

Grocer did drop a catch, but enjoyed not being captain. I will see who turns up for DBS before I decide how to call the next one.
