I'm not sure if it will be referred to in the story, but it is *true* for that story.] Daitokuji Hikaru blinked as the window of the door to the cell slid open, letting a tiny stream of light touch his naked body. His eyes, so used to the dark, screamed in pain at its intensity, and he could barely make out the shape beyond the window. Yet he knew who it was. His angel. His betrayer. His cash cow. "Biiko?" he asked, in a voice dry from thirst. "Biiko, darling, why are you --" "I found mother's journal. `Father'." Her voice loaded the term with tons of sarcasm and anger. "Did you actually think that I'd never figure it out? That I'd never realize that you've never thought of me as your daughter? BECAUSE I'M NOT?!?" "Biiko, I --" "You found out about mother's affair with him, and contacted some of his more ... aggressive associates. That's actually ironic, do you know that, father? He'd *never* killed another human being. I wonder if he even knew why when they stormed into his secret laboratory, underneath the city. When he died, down there, under the earth." His voice was almost a falsetto in his terror. "Biiko, you can't mean to --" "Oh, don't worry, `father'. I intend to follow in his footsteps in *that* way ... if not in others. You're not going to die, down here. No, you're going to live a long, long time. After all ... I need you to sign the checks that keep my feud with his nemesis' daughter -- *my* nemesis -- running." She laughed then, ironically. "Biiko Luthor. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?" She was still laughing as she slammed the window closed, plunging the cell into darkness. Author's Notes I *refuse* to believe that I'm the first person to have thought of this. The line about "B-ko's father is based on Tony Stark, and so the rivalry between A-ko and B-ko is emblematic of the rivalry between DC and Marvel" has *never* made a whit of sense to me. B-ko's father was the PRE-CRISIS Luthor, okay? Not to be confused with that tuna sandwich who's been running around impersonating him for the last twelve years. There's a special place in Purgatory awaiting John Byrne for turning Lex Luthor into a cheap rip-off of the Kingpin of Crime ... (Incidentally, the reports of her father's death may have been greatly exaggerated ...) Chris Davies, Advocate for Darkness, Part-Time Champion of Light.
