That Ragged Old Flag

As I walk through a county courthouse square,
I saw an old man, just sitting there,
I said to him your courthouse is kinda run down,
and he said, naw it will do for our little town,
I said, your flag pole leans a bit,
and that's a ragged old flag you've got haggin on it,
he said, have a seat,
so I sat down,
Is this the first time you've been to our little town,
and I answered yes it is,
and he said I don't like to brag,
but we're pretty darn proud of that ragged old flag,
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there,
when Washington took it accross the Delaware,
It got powder burns the night francis Scott Key said,
Washington was right,
Oh say Can you see.
It got a big rip in New Orealns,
With Packingham and Jackson tugging at her seams,
She almost fell at the Alamo,
Beside the Texan flag,
But she waved on through.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville,
she got cut again at Shilo Hill,
There was Robert E. Lee, Bourgard, and Bragg,
and the south winds blew hard on our ragged old flag,
on Flanders feild in World War One,
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun,
She turned blood red in World War Two,
and she hung limp and low a time or two,
She was in Korea and Vietnam,
she went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam.
she waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
and now they've about quit waving her,
here at home.
In her own good land she has been abused,
she has been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused.
The government for which she stands,
has scandalized throughout the land.
She is wearing threadbare, and wearing thin,
but she is in good shape, for the shape she's in.
She has been through the fire before,
and I beleive she can take a hell of a lot more.
We raise her up every morning,
Take her down every night,
don't let her touch the ground,
and fold her up right.
On second thought, I do like to brag,
I'm mighty Damn Proud of that Ragged ole' flag!
