| MINUTES I. Call to Order: 7:17 II. Reports: a. President: absent b. Vice President: - We need to get ready for our next campout, Mike and Kenny will go over details c. Treasurer: Absent d. Secretary: - I brought another girl to our meeting who is joiningour venture group, her name is Angie. - Everyone check your email! e. Mike and Kenny- i. Presentation for website: - Mike created a website: www.geocites.com/crew1407.It includes pictures, dates of events, awards, and a couple facts about each crewmember. If you have anything to add to thewebsite contact Mike. ii. Weekend campout at D-A (cow camp): - We would like to move the campout to the weekend of April 12-14, if you have any comments or problems with this dateeither contact Mike or Kenny or bring it up at the next meeting. - In order to go on this outing you must have a permission slip from your parents, if you do not have one yet see Kenny. - On Friday the 12th we will meet at St. Margarets at 6pm to get ready to leave - We planned meals for the outing: Breakfast Saturday morning- eggs in bags or orange peals, gatorade, and bagels Lunch Saturday day- apples, chewy bars, crackers with either cheese or pb+j, and gatorade Dinner Saturday night- noodles, gatorade, and biscuits Breakfast Sunday morning- oatmeal and pears Snack- trail mix Other materials- aluminum foil, a pot, mess kit either Tupperware or plastic, and tents - To clean our mess kits we are going to rinse them with as little water as possible and drink it. - On Saturday we need to do presentations for a different group/crew, Kenny and Mike assigned projects to various people: Simon: 1. Emergency signals used in the outdoors, 2. Search and rescue patterns, 3. Evacuation procedures and value of when to move and when not to move in a wilderness emergency Vickie: discuss what the causes are, the kinds of signs, symptoms, and treatment for 1. H ypothermia, 2. Frostbite, 3. Sunburn, 4. Heat exhaustion, 5. Heat cramps, 6. Heat stroke Kristine: 1. Explain dehydration and the necessity of conserving fluids in a survival situation, 2. Explain four ways to obtain water in the outdoors and demonstrate two ways to purify that water Kenny: Demonstrate two different fire lays- one for cooking and one for warmth, 2. Learn and discuss the use of fire starters, tinder, kindling, softwoods, and hardwoods in fire making Matt: Explain and demonstrate how to gain knowledge of weather patterns using VHF band radio and other radios, winds, barometric pressure, air masses and their movements, clouds, and the indicators. The types of ropes will be discussed together as a group at our next meeting along with preparing food found in the outdoors and setting up a survival outpost camp III. Old Business: a. Venturing Camporee: i. As of right now there are no hard numbers for the people going on the venturing camporee from the 19-21 of April, and make sure to let Vickie or Matt know whether or not you are going ASAP! ii. If we decide to sleep in tents instead of cabins, we can save $10. iii. During the outing there are many activities we can participate in such as a 70's dance, archery, horseback riding, ect. b. Fundraising for philmont: i. Carwash ii. Popcorn iii. Pizza kits iv. Corporate sponsor v. Selling first aid kits vi. Euchre - This discussion was tabled until next meeting IV. New Business: a. We need to touch on what things to bring and how to pack it b. District Council- South Michigan Orienting Council (SMOC): i. Each year groups participate in courses set up in a certain area where you have to guide yourself from one point to another using just a map and compass ii.
