POEMS

I am an American but I have friends from Crete
It doesn't matter where we are from
Our friendship can’t be beat.

My friends tell me about their land
It’s history, it's people,
And the more I think about it,
The more I see myself in it.

I am just as proud as my friends
And I share their dreams,
When I think how the great Lord
Made our roads meet.

I can't help it I love two lands
I am proud to be American
But I can't forget my Crete.

I found a lot of happiness in every thing I did
But I would love to see again
The island of Crete.

My heart is splitting in the middle
Because I have two loves,
One is my America the other is my Crete.

I can't forget her sunny skies
The golden stars of night
The people that I left behind
The hills with the grapevines.

So here in America when I see my friends
We eat, we drink we dance and dream
How some day we all can go and visit our Crete.

While I am here far away I will not forget
My culture, my religion the things
I have been taught.

I'll try to keep it going
Through the association
That now we have form.

I am asking for your help my friends
Because as you know
In order to complete this goal, one person
Can’t work alone.

My dream is to succeed in everything I do
And if I can't leave in Crete
at least I can bring, the Cretan ways to you.
