
MEMBERSHIP
We,
the Cretans of Greater San Antonio, in order to uphold and propagate the
noble culture and ethnic traditions of the Island of Crete, organized and
established an independent, mutual and philanthropic association affiliated
with the Pancretan Association of America.
Our chapter’s name is “ARIADNE” of Greater San Antonio. (GSA) Of
The Pancretan Association of America. The
relationship of our Chapter with the Pancretan Association of America is
governed by the Constitution of the Pancretan Association of America.
The purpose of our Chapter
is to advance the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Crete, the
cradle of Western Civilization and its history, culture, literature, language,
music, arts, sciences, and other achievements. To promote social intercourse
between modern Crete and all descendants of its people, and all other philocretans
who subscribe to these purposes. To
provide for activities and opportunities for educational development, good
will and mutual aid among members of the Chapter, and to engage in philanthropic
and charitable acts that benefit the Greater San Antonio community.
We have established three classes of members of our Chapter: Regular
members, Associate members and Honorary members. Regular and Associate members of our Chapter
will be admitted and their membership in good standing will be maintained
by the payment of annual dues in an amount approved by the
A Regular member must be a descendent or the spouse of a descendent of a person originating from the Island of Crete. A Regular member of our Chapter in good standing will have the right to vote at all Chapter membership meetings and to hold office in the Chapter.
An Associate member will be any Philo-Cretan who subscribes to the purposes of the Chapter and whose application for membership shall have been approved by a simple majority of members of the Chapter.
An
Honorary member is proclaimed by a simple majority vote of the membership
in recognition of esteem or in gratitude from rendering service to the Chapter
or its purposes. Honorary members will not be assessed membership dues but
may render financial or other support to our Chapter.
The amount of the initiation
fee, annual dues and other fees for each class of membership will be fixed
and changed from time to time by the Board of Directors and ratified by
the membership.
All Regular and Associate members of the Chapter in good standing
will enjoy:
a. The right to attend all regular and special meetings and other
functions of the Chapter and the Pancretan Association of America.
b. The right to participate and speak at meetings of the membership
and to express opinions on any issue under consideration.
d. The right to participate in all functions and activities of
the Chapter or the Pancretan Association of America, except that only Regular
members shall have the right to vote on matters brought before a meeting
of the for membership.
